Professors and books, essays and labs, cramming for tests, trying to raise that GPA. Then you're given a diploma and you're off and running. Suddenly, some of you realize that you're running alone, as if participating in a relay race with nobody to pass your "baton"-that diploma you now proudly grip in your hand.

In addition to his long-term support of this newspaper, Alan Malnar, Faculty Advisor to Horizons, deserves many kudos for his important, beautifully written "Taxi Tips" in the Mar. 31 issue.

His stories and tips resonate with me because I'm also a former NYC cab driver from the other side of the proverbial "railroad tracks.

I sit here writing this, of course, on an airplane.

Predictable? At this school, definitely. I have seen my share of editors contemplate what thoughts they want to share as they depart this newspaper and university, ready to try their hand at that "real world" out there.

Looking up in the sky with a blank stare, not realizing what is going on around me; someone stops me and asks, "Joyce, it looks like you are always thinking. What are you thinking about?" Just because I am relatively quiet doesn't mean I am always thinking but yes, people are right I am, but mostly pondering.
