The Davis Learning Center was filled with laughter once again as Comedian Karith Foster took to the stage on February 3.
Foster was born in Plano, Tex., a town "as racially diverse as a Klan rally," she says.
In high school, she began her entertainment career in the school showing of A Raisin in the Sun. "Guess who the raisin was?" joked Foster.
Currently, Foster lives in the Harlem neighborhood of New York City. She learned that while she may fit in with the rest of the crowd in Harlem, "it isn't cool to walk into a bodega, one of those small Spanish grocery stores and say, 'Que pasa y'all?'".
In an exclusive interview with Foster before the show at Gurley Street Grill, she explained that she's been doing stand-up routines "pretty much every night. In fact I have two shows in Long Island tomorrow when I get back to New York."
When in New York, she is commonly seen entertaining audiences at a variety of comedy clubs such as The Boston Comedy Club, The Comic Strip and Gotham Comedy Club.
Foster graduated with a bachelor of science in broadcast journalism from Stevens College, an all-female college in Columbia, Mo. and worked as a production assistant for a television station in Missouri and New York, including Barbara Walter's, "The View".
On television, she can presently be seen on Comedy Central's, "Premium Blend" and NBC's "Last Comic Standing".
Showing her appreciation for the audience, Foster talked and joked with members of the audience and thanked them all for attending. "Everybody was great," said Foster, "I've been to colleges where people don't even laugh."
BCA Assistant Director Tina Blake said she found Foster at a national convention showcasing comedians, poets and musicians. "We have one comedian coming in March and two comedians in April," said Blake.
