Saturday, January 28 the ERAU wrestling team competed against Glendale Community College, New Mexico Highlands University and Pima College. The all-day tournament marked the third-to-last competition of Embry-Riddle's wrestling season, and proved a good showing for the team.
The Eagles fought hard and were able to post 57 points to Pima's 3; New Mexico Highlands University also lost to Embry-Riddle's 51 points with 6 points. Glendale Community College was defeated by ERAU by 59 to 12. Four of Embry-Riddle's matches were won by pins from Calvin DeVault, Matt Gidney, Hayden Harrison and Gordo Villaescusa.
Saturday, Senior night for Embry-Riddle honored three men who have been involved with the Embry-Riddle wrestling program for four years: Robert Charlton, Danny Eller and Eugene Garza. Each man was given a plaque, and Coach John Petty had words of praise for each. Coach Petty and Athletic Director Larry Stephan also honored all-American Robert Charlton as he retired his singlet.
The Eagles now prepare for the Missouri Valley Open, the Western Regionals and then Nationals. Given Embry-Riddle's successful season, they should have no problem doing well in their next few challenges and taking on Nationals in full force.
