Recently the Las Vegas Convention Center opened its doors to the 2006 Shot Show, which took place February 9 - 12. The Shot Show is an event that allows dealers with a Federal Firearms License to meet other distributors along with their companies that are related to firearms such as law enforcement. The shot show operates under strict rules which include no photography, no personal firearms or ammunition and children under 16 are not allowed.
The show runs all day from 8:30am to 5:30pm allowing those in attendance to spend all day trying view all the booths available. Imagine the length of a football field covered with gun displays then imagine 15 more football fields to understand how big the event is. One attendee said, "The show was so big they opened tents up outside." Bob Ayers. The show had a total of 1,800 exhibitors at the event. If one personally visited everyone of the 1,800 exhibitors at the show, one would only have 72 seconds to spend with each one.
The show is set up by categories, which include Firearms and Ammunition, General Shooting and Hunting, Law Enforcement, Outfitters Post, Outdoor Wear and Paintball. As dealers walk around they are given the chance to see the new and complete lines of products that are out. Along with that FFL dealers are able to see what hot deals are being offered. The show is designed for those who buy firearms and allows FFL dealers a chance "meet your sales rep that you been dealing with along with be introduced to companies that you have not been dealing with." Bob Ayers. In some cases disturbers will show as much as a 25% price decrease.
The show is not all business in addition those in attendance are given an opportunity to attend seminars. Some of the seminars included, "Shooting Industry" Magazine presents: Selling to Law Enforcement, Paintball-Expert Market Analysis and profitable facts and increasing profits without increasing sales payment processing. The Shot Show also provides entrainment for people once the exhibits have closed for the day. One particular star in attendance was country singer Lee Ann Womack. Different movie actors are also on hand giving out autographs. Members also have to chance to win prizes such as a 45 automatic pistol.
Overall they event provides a great deal of awareness to dealers, allowing for an idea to be gained as to where firearms are going with the next two years. The event is held every year and next will be held in Florida.
