It was the third game of the season for the Black Sheep, and the last away game for the team as they played against the Thunderbird School of International Business Management in Phoenix.

The game began at 1:30 p.m. as Thunderbird kicked off to the Black Sheep. About 20 minutes of the first half was played before the first points of the day were added to the scoreboard. Thunderbird was awarded a penalty near the 20-meter line of the Black Sheep and monopolized on a field goal, raising the score from 0-0 to 3-0.

The game pressed on with both teams fighting vigorously, and again Thunderbird was able to draw a penalty in Black Sheep territory, tacking on another 3 points. With about 10 minutes left to play in the first half, the game became more and more intense. The Black Sheep had already visited the Thunderbird's try-zone numerous times with minimal success. With the score at 6-0, Thunderbird managed to score a try, raising the score 11-0 against the Black Sheep. Fortunately for the Black Sheep, the grads missed the point-after-try and allowed the score to remain level at 11-0.

Halftime was then called and strategies for both teams were examined.

After two substitutions for the Black Sheep and none for Thunderbird, the final half of play was ready to commence. The whistle sounded and the Black Sheep kicked the ball off to Thunderbird. The game raged onward for about 13 minutes before yet another painstaking penalty propped the graduate team up another 3 points from a penalty field goal.

With the score now 14-0 in Thunderbirds' favor and the Black Sheep having to kick off again, Black Sheep kicker and fullback Sean Meagher booted the ball downfield as fast as he could. He then out-sprinted the trailing Thunderbird ruggers, catching up with the ball in the try zone and scoring right after the kickoff. The Black Sheep then booted the point-after far right and left the score 14-5: not close, but now officially, a rugby game. Thunderbird got the game started again with a kickoff and play continued. After another 7 minutes, Meagher and the persistent effort of his forwards resulted in another try to raise the score 14-10. This time the Sheep got the two-point kick, and drew the score even closer:14-12.
