Issue date: 3/31/06 Section: News
After several weeks of tough campaigning and even tougher competition, the Executive Council and the Representatives for Embry-Riddle's Student Government Association have been elected. Nicole Potter will take over Nikki Turner's job as President of the SGA. Serena Lackey will be the new Vice President. Teresa Weygandt and Megan Brewer were elected to Secretary and Treasurer, respectively. The new Representatives are Nate De Putter, Eric Large, Diana Dillard, Brittany Shilosky, Kevin Winkelhake, and Morgan Scott.

As SGA President, Potter will be the effective leader of the student body. If there is a vacancy in SGA, it is the President's job to appoint someone to the position. Potter is an Aerospace Engineering major planning to graduate in spring 2007. She is also pursuing minors in Defense Studies and Math. Potter does not yet have any specific objectives for her time in office. However, she did say, "One of the big items for next year will be finding a new President for the school."

Lackey, the new Vice President, has the tie-breaking vote during SGA meetings. She will also be responsible for creating and posting an agenda prior to each meeting. The Vice President is also in charge of determining whether absences should be excused. Lackey is currently a sophomore in the Applied Meteorology program, and is serving the school as an SGA representative. In the past, Lackey has been involved in organizing the December Holiday Movie Special at Globe Theater, where students got into movies for $1. For next year, Lackey says, "I want to bring a new level of professionalism, organization and reliability to the SGA office."

The Secretary is responsible for maintaining all of the SGA's files, as well as recording attendance and publishing the meeting minutes. It will also be Weygandt's job to update the by-laws and the SGA constitution. The new Treasurer, Brewer, will be in charge of the budget allocated to SGA by the school. It will be Brewer's job to contact university officials to determine current enrollment rates. This will serve as the basis for the SGA's budget. Brewer will also be required to submit a summary of the previous semester's expenditures to the Student Council at the beginning of each semester. Brewer is an Aerospace Engineering student graduating in Spring 2007 with math and defense studies minors. Though she didn't mention specific goals, Brewer did say "I have a few ideas of things that I'd like to try to tweak next year with my position. "
