To the Embry-Riddle community: your basic right to stay informed was revoked the week before spring break.
The subject of an article I wrote admitted stealing copies of Horizons to police. I had no prior relationship with this person, nor did I have a personal agenda for writing the article. In order to be a responsible journalist, I have to cover both the positive and negative aspects of this campus, as I did in writing the article.
I have been called a liar and have been told that my information is false. Luckily, every piece of information included in the article is documented in official police reports available to the public through the Freedom of Information Act of 1966.
The Freedom of Information Act allows the public access to public record information from government sources.
In this example, a simple FOIA request of the City of Prescott Legal Department yielded the official documents I needed to write the story in a factual, non-biased method.
On an entirely seperate note, I hope everyone had a safe spring break. Graduation is almost here, let's try to keep a positive mind and press through the end of the spring semester.
