Alpha Sigma Tau is hosting its third annual silent auction on April 22, 2006, at the Phippen Museum on Highway 89 North.

The money raised will go to the Animals Benefit Club of Arizona, a no-kill animal rescue shelter. This is the sorority's first year giving the proceeds to an organization other than the American Cancer Society; the current Philanthropy chair, Alysha Tellefson, decided to switch the focus of the benefit and help a small shelter that will benefit greatly from the money.

AST has received donations of auction items from restaurants, spas, movie theaters, a dance academy, and a tanning salon. Sigma Pi Fraternity and the Women in Aviation club have donated themed baskets to the auction. A couple sisters are making their own fancy desserts to auction off as well.

The women of Alpha Sigma Tau will be preparing a Chinese dinner for the auction attendees and serving it while they browse through the items and bid on them.

The Phippen Museum, where the auction is going to be held, generously lowered their room rental fee as well, to ensure that most of the funds raised go towards the shelter. The Student Government Association gave Alpha Sigma Tau club funding for this semester to buy nice place settings, tablecloths, and centerpieces to decorate the tables. This will allow the sisters to serve dinner without having to borrow place settings, and enable them to use the items for other activities in the future.

Tickets are $15 per person for faculty, staff, and people outside of Embry-Riddle, and $12.50 for Embry-Riddle students. The auction and dinner will be held at 5:45 p.m. Tickets are available from Alysha Tellefson by emailing her at [telle2fe@erau.edu].
