The Third Annual Women's Tea began at 3:00 p.m. on Sun, Sept. 12 in the Lower Hangar. With the musical talents of singer Lulu La Fever filling the air, approximately thirty females attended this event with a mixture of faculty, students, student athletes, coaches, and sororities all gathered together.

Besides just tea being served, there were also platefuls of fruits, chocolate, sweet finger food, coffee, and lemonade. As the hour went by, the section blocked off in the Lower Hangar quickly filled up as more and more Embry-Riddle women attended. "I think it is a great relaxing event for women to get to have an afternoon together." says Applied Meteorology major Serena Lackey. All the tables were occupied with students either talking to faculty or getting introduced to other students. It gave every female a chance to talk among each other and learn what others had to say. "It is a good opportunity to interact with students outside my normal responsibilities." mentions Nancy Barrett University Director of Information Technology Services. Most of the faculty can agree that the only time they have contact with students is if they are having a problem with something. Tina Blake, the Hostess of the afternoon, said, "This is the largest one (Women's Tea) compared to the past three years." The idea of Women's Tea was thought up by Deb Meyers to encourage all women to come together.

This event was sponsored by the Office of Student Activities and the Diversity Committee and supported by Reality of 18% and Embry-Riddle Women's Club. The Women's Tea helped kick off other events such Women's Forum spoken by Chancellor Dan Carrell and Reality of 18% which were both held in the Davis Learning Center on Sept. 19, 2006. For any interested females, the Women's Club holds a meeting on the first Wednesday of each month at Cherri Carrell's home.

Regardless of the gloomy, rainy day, the Women's Tea ended on a positive note. Though women are underrepresented here at Embry-Riddle, it is nice to know that all the women are going through similar experiences and that the support is here for them.
