Despite the rain earlier in the day, the All Campus BBQ still started as scheduled. Burgers and hot dogs were on the grill and being served. Some activities were getting started. The new Air Force cadre, Colonel Fairchild, as well as Army cadre, Major Abramowitz, and student Steve Kent were dunked in the dunk tank.

And then it started. In came the rain a lot earlier than predicted. Still the BBQ carried on. Many people ran to the Eagle gym for cover. For a while, the food continued to be served, but the rain just kept coming down harder and harder. Once the lighting started, it was time to pack up. All the food was soaked so there was no reason to bring it into the gym.

Although many people left, it didn't stop the fun for everyone. Inside the gym students talked and met new people; a game of Knock-Out started; and a crowd gathered on one side of the gym to watch Scott Fischer, the Juggling Club president, juggle knives.

There were even people still outside. Already soaked from the rain, why not just stay outside. A few stood around talking and watching the lighting. Another group started throwing around a football.

The Activity Center was also starting to get crowded. People were pushing their way in, forcing the Club Fair to begin an hour early. It was very hectic at first, but Kimi Benson, the Club Fair coordinator, quickly got things under control and the club fair was an overall success.

Almost every table was full with a good variety of clubs and organizations represented. There was almost anything from softball to rugby, billiards to archery, helicopter club to power paragliding, Hawaiian club to Indian Club. There were campus organizations such as the Student Government Association (SGA) and the Board of Campus Activities (BCA); and a few fraternities and sororities.

The Society of Physics Students drew quite a crowd with their liquid nitrogen ice cream. The ice cream was being eaten as fast as they could make it. "Since there's no food, this ice cream is my dinner," said one freshman as she enjoyed the sweet treat.

When asked how they thought the events turned out, both Kimi and Tina Blake, Assistant Director of Student Activities and coordinator for the All Campus BBQ, said it was a success.

Kimi said that she didn't anticipate people forcing themselves into the gym and apologizes to the clubs that didn't get to showcase their clubs because of the early start time. She would like to attempt a mini-Club Fair in the Quad or Lower Hangar to give some of those clubs as well as any new clubs that would still like to showcase their clubs.

Tina was disappointed about the rain but said the ideas and concepts for this year's BBQ were great. She had to make a decision, either cancel it or go on with the BBQ. She decided to take the risk, and says it was worth it. She had a lot of support this year. Even through the rain, everyone pulled together to help out. "It was truly an all campus event."

She would also like to remind everyone to be ready for OctoberWest.
