At many colleges 18% is viewed as a small number, which would hold a significant value when talking about the student body. However at ERAU 18% is rather large especially when referring to the amount of women currently attend riddle. Currently, the guy to girl ratio is the best Riddle has seen in the past three years.

With more freshman and transfer women in enrolling the guy to girl ratio has jumped from 8:1 all the way down to 5:1. In honor of the change Embry Riddle Eagle sisters hosted a forum in the DLC on Tuesday, Sept. 19, 2006 to inform and let women students know that they are not along on this male dominated campus.

Eagle sisters are a group of women from all different majors who want to help female students with their time at Riddle. The group was organized by Meagan Lockett the women's soccer coach. Eagle sisters are women who are there to answer questions about classes, friends, roommates, boys, boyfriends and parties. The forum allowed freshman and other female students who attended the chance to know that surviving at Riddle is possible if you know and understand the school.

Throughout the presentation the each eagle sister stood and told a story about different things which they have encountered while being at riddle. Key points mentioned were how to deal with professors who may call on a female more than males, dealing with guys who want to talk trash, what is needed to get good grades, why joining different club organizations can help, and letting everyone know that Eagle sisters are there to answers questions either in person or on MySpace.

The forum also featured raffle prizes for all that attended from, gift certificates to subway, yellowleaf, iTunes, Harkins, 50 dollars from visa and two other big prizes a itunes home theater and a new DVD player.

Aside from winning prizes and learning about how to deal with different situations the forum allowed females to break into smaller focus groups and discuss what their impressions of Riddle having just arrived and how to adjusting to the environment was going for them. Additionally, the forum let females know many different organizations are available to them. From counseling services with Jody Morrison up to birth control options through Health Services with Sandra Palmer.

Overall the forum was a well put together presentation by Megan Lockett and members of the diversity committee explaining to those who are new to the Riddle scene that being female at a school dominated by male does not have to be a bad thing. As coach Lockett stated " we want you ladies to know that there are people here who care and want to make a your experience here better for you." If you would like to either become an Eagles sister who find out who the Eagle sisters are so that you can talk with them you can email coach locket at [lucke6a6@erau.edu] or contact her by phone at 928.777.3799.
