Changes made to Eagle Card for new semester

Michael Langlais

Issue date: 9/14/06 Section: News
When students checked their mailboxes at the beginning of this school year, they found an orange colored flyer. Most probably discarded this flyer, assuming it was just another flyer about an upcoming event. If they had looked closely at it they would have noticed several updates and changes to the Eagle Card. These changes have been in the work for some time, and started to make appearances as soon as the Eagle Card came out. The changes announced this year will not be the last either.

Before this year the Eagle card had already been set up to do a few things more than just serve as an ID card. Access to Halls 6 through 10 and a few other building were controlled by the Eagle Card, as well as the meal plan through Chartwells. There were also several vending machines setup with card readers to automatically draw money from a separate account set up in the Bursar's office. This year, several new changes have been made.

One of the accounts on the Eagle Card, the Eagle Dollars account, has been one of the recipients of many of these changes. Accessible both at the bursar's office and online at [www.onlinecardoffice.com/erauprc], this account is now used for more than just vending machines and meal account. This account can now be used for making payments at the Copy Center, Library, and has even taken the place of the laundry cards in the residence halls. The uses for this account do not stop there though.

One of the new features for the Eagle Card is the ability to buy books and other items at the Follett bookstore. When the Eagle Card is used to make a payment at the bookstore, the amount is charged to the students Eagle Dollars account. What is interesting to note about this is that Follett bookstore is one of the first outside vendors that is accepting the Eagle Card as a form of payment.

The ability for flight students to pay for their flight activities using the Flight Dollars account has also been added to the Eagle Card. Up to $9,999 can be deposited into this account and financial aid transferred directly to the account at the Bursar's Office. However, the funds must remain in that account until the student is no longer in the flight program. When asked his thoughts on Flight Dollars account, Mario Bustamante, a first year flight student, said "It makes sense. It's also convenient."
