Numerous changes have been taking place over the summer months at Embry-Riddle, not the least of which is the much-anticipated single sign-on portal ERNIE (Embry-Riddle Network for Information Exchange) at [http://ernie.erau.edu]. The new portal makes it possible to sign on once to access most of your ERAU account information, email, and network applications like Blackboard, Anti-spam protection, web mail, etc. You can also customize the portal to fit your own priorities and information needs. Once you have set up your security questions, you will also be able to reset or change your password online.

Over the summer, IT upgraded all campus lab and classroom computers to Windows XP. Windows XP provides more efficient, stable, and reliable operation, improved security (Windows XP now requires an ERAU AccountID to login and use the workstations), power saving options, and much more. All of the campus lab computers have CD burning capacity, and a few have DVD burners for even greater data capacity to store your backups, images, or even those movies you created (you will need to supply your own media, a burnable CD-R or DVD-R).

Speaking of changes, the new AXFAB building opened with the addition of 25 new computers and 3 new network printers; King Engineering was remodeled and added 24 new computers and 3 network printers; ResNET, the computer repair shop for all resident students, was moved to Hall 4 room 203 and remodeled. Students are invited to come by ResNET to see the changes and find out what the ResNET staff can do for you. Information Technology also announced that McAfee Anti-Virus software is available to qualified students, faculty, and staff for installation on their home or personal PC at no cost. See [http://it.erau.edu/services/antivirus.htm] for more details.

As in prior years, all students can have a web account in order to create their own personal website. Interested students can complete an online form at [http://fusion.erau.edu/er/it/forms/web_accts/index.cfm#pcstu]. These web accounts are publicly viewable from anywhere and have a 100 megabyte quota. Instructions for working with the student home page server, Mercury, are available at [http://mercury.pr.erau.edu/startup]. University guidelines for web publications may be found at [http://it.erau.edu/policies/webpublishing.htm].
