Assume the position freshmen, fall semester is here and like stink on a monkey there is no hiding from it. New books - lots of new books, finding classrooms, arranging calendars, getting roommates, meeting instructors, health and sports certificates and registering for practically everything takes up time and brain matter. School is your new address now and university is a pretty exciting place to be.
Differing from the other new students who will receive their college baptism under fire, a clever group of freshmen got a head start on their academia by enrolling in Summer B at Embry-Riddle here in Prescott. They began their fall classes early and launched into flight training ahead of schedule. The ambitious band of scholars are wasting no time preparing for their future.
Justin Thomas is an Aeronautical Science major from San Diego, Calif. While previously in the Marine Corps, he is now considering an additional military flight career or perhaps a position in the commercial airline industry. Thomas works at the ERAU flight line refueling university planes and enjoys it tremendously because he is involved in many flight department activities. Thomas says of his Summer B classes, "Basically, I am getting a terrific head start on my education and there was not as much competition for flight time. I have been out of school awhile now and I am easing back into the groove of college. Embry-Riddle is a great environment and I am really looking forward to the fall semester beginning."
Freshman Chris Aaserud plans on a commercial pilot career with a major airline after earning his Aeronautical Science degree upon graduation. Aaserud gained an interest in aeronautics and flying while growing up in Phoenix, Ariz. and hanging out at the Deer Valley Airport. Aaserud explains, "Coming to Embry-Riddle for Summer B was a wonderful opportunity for me to become familiar with the campus, get a jump on my flight training and make friends."
Christopher Predovich is from Sacramento, Calif. Upon commencement he will look forward to a thrilling pursuit as a fighter pilot in the U.S. Air Force. Predovich says, "I feel privileged and advantaged to be able to get a lead on my flight training and to get orientated to the people and places of Embry-Riddle and Prescott. I find Prescott to be a truly patriotic city and I think that is just great. I can see why they call it 'Everyone's Home Town.' I hope I can use my experiences to help other incoming freshmen get adjusted to their new environment. I know at this point already that life at ERAU and Prescott in general is what you make it. I would encourage new students to get involved in all sorts of activities but not to lose focus of their academic goals."
