Eagle Volleyball defeats Glendale in three games

Women's volleyball has always been known on the Embry-Riddle campus however; this year's team is a little more special since they are the only team to hold a roster of 13 women since 1997. Of the thirteen women only three come onto the team as freshman the rest are all returns form last year. Additionally, the team is made up of now actual captains. Coach Meyers is "Trying something a little bit different this year by not assigning a captain for the whole season but actually letting the team choose each week based on the individuals performance the week before. Who's doing well who's representing who's doing the things you expect from the leader. Currently, the team has picked Amber Page a SR. and Lauren Nouis a SR as their representatives.

Going into the match against Glendale College coach Meyer noted "All I want from my team is to play with intensity from start to finish and to draw out the strengths in the leadership of people like Lauren, Amber, Zoe, Krista and Bridget these are people that we need to able to rest on not one individual but six or seven of them collectively. I just want them to play with confidence, intensity and emotion the entire game."

As 7:00pm hit the clock on Friday, 8 Sept. fans had the seats in the Eagle gym filled and they were ready to enjoy another amazing game of volleyball. The Air Force ROTC Color guard started out the night by presenting the colors and national anthem was song by Jrs Alana Greenwalt and Kensie Oakley.

The lady eagles would start the game out serving and quickly attacked the Glendale team. With 4 consecutive points scored by the eagles Glendale called a time out to regroup and discuss strategy while the fans and eagles roared with their excitement. The lady eagles would start the game with a fire meant to let Glendale that they came to win. With a fast played first match the lady eagles won 30-17.

Having switched sides game two would begin and the lady eagles would start out showing their defensive skills. The eagles show amazing focus and communication on the the court. Amber Page the setter was able to place the ball everywhere for the hitters. Additionally, Lauren Nouis showed Glendale they would need to jump and hit the ball a little higher if they wanted to get around the wall she set up at the net. Again the eagles won match two with the score of 30-17.

Rather than take half times both teams decided to keep playing. With the third match ready to start Glendale College would need to step their game up if they want to stop the lady eagles. Once again the eagles would start out serving with Amber Page serving first for the eagles. With her amazing jump serve and great in court play by the eagles Amber was to gain 8 service points putting the lady eagles ahead early.
