Care for some fish? How about some sushi? Monsoon's, a restaurant located just outside the downtown square on Gurley Street, will definitely satisfy your taste for exotic food. This restaurant, open Friday and Saturday from 11:30 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. and Sunday to Thursday from 11:30 a.m. to 9:00 p.m., can provide you with every type of Japanese cuisine that you desire.

As you enter Monsoon's, you will be immediately greeted by a hostess that is quick to seat you at either a booth or table. This modern restaurant is dimly lit, offering that romantic feeling for a date, or just a nice warm feeling for a group of people. Monsoon's has dark and rich colors that glorify the features of the restaurant and bring out the connotations behind the name "Monsoon's." Red, black, and orange are the three colors that magnify the entrance to the restaurant, and are carried throughout in the theme of this Japanese eatery.

The menu is filled with a variety of both traditional and exotic Japanese entrees. However, for this trip to Monsoon's, we experimented with their appetizers as well as their well known sushi. If you are looking for sushi, there is an overwhelming variety listed on the back of the menu. For the inexperienced sushi connoisseurs, a small description of the sushi specials is also provided.

To begin the evening, we delighted our appetite with an order of lettuce wraps and Szechuan dumplings. The appetizers were delivered within five minutes of ordering. The lettuce wraps consisted of marinated chicken, water chestnuts, onions, and mushrooms, all wrapped in a piece of fresh iceberg lettuce and topped with a drizzle of hoisin sauce. The Szechuan dumplings are chicken filled pot stickers that are steamed to perfection and served with a side of chili sauce. These appetizers will definitely wake up your taste buds and get them ready for some fabulous Japanese entrees.

Now, for the main course, sushi! For those who are not that sure about their feelings on raw fish we recommend sushi rolls. They are a delicious way to enjoy traditional sushi without pushing your limits too far. Most rolls consist of some type of fish, rice, and a variety of vegetables and seasonings.
