Zero Week Kicks Off Army ROTC 08-09 School Year

Embry-Riddle's Army Reserve Officer Training Corps starts off the school year strong with their third annual Zero Week. Thirty-eight incoming freshman Cadets and two transfer students checked in a week early on Sunday, Aug. 17, not knowing what was in store for them.

Sky Harbor Construction Roadway Restrictions

Construction at Sky Harbor will slow roadway traffic entering the Airport from the east beginning August 26. These roadway restrictions are expected to last nearly a year - through June 2009. From August 26, 2008 through June 2009 westbound lanes of Sky Harbor Boulevard south of Terminal 4 will be reduced from three to two lanes of traffic while construction crews improve the "C" Checkpoint at Terminal 4.

ERAU's Gary Gear Will Be Missed by Students, Faculty, and Staff

Gary Gear passed away July 28, 2008 at his home. He was an associate professor of computer and electrical engineering at Embry Riddle Aeronautical University, Prescott, AZ and research scientist at NASA Dryden Flight Research Center, Edwards AFB, CA. He is survived by his wife Deborah, mother Claretta Gear, one sister, one son, one daughter, one step son, one step daughter and several grandchildren.

Despite the repercussions of downloading media via illegal peer-to-peer applications, over 90 percent of ISU students who lived on-campus during the 2007- 2008 school year used P2P software. The high volume of file sharing in the residence halls has led to a recent restriction of p2p applications on all of ISU's on-campus networks.

Phoenix Mars Lander to work for another 30 Martian days

NASA's Phoenix Mars Lander finishes off its 90th Martian day (or "sol", about 92 Earth days) of funded operation. The planned budget was to end on Tuesday Aug. 26, yet a recent extension added on 30 more sols of digging and analyzing Martian soil. Due to the Lander's successful 90 days of operation NASA administrators extended its operation period to mid September, and Phoenix robotic arm co-investigator Ray Arvidson of Washington University in St.

U.S. House approves GI bill for recent war veterans

The U.S. House of Representatives voted to significantly increase college tuition benefits for veterans as part of a war funding bill passed on Thursday. College President James Wright has been a major advocate of the legislation, which will offer tuition benefits equal to those provided by the World War II GI bill.
